Phoenix: World of Warcraft (AzerothCore)

Phoenix is the custom 3.3.5a World of Warcraft server for The Nest. Built on AzerothCore, this server is designed to provide a rich, active, and solo-friendly experience using simulated players, personalized content unlocking, and quality-of-life enhancements. Think of it as a living, breathing MMO environment where you dictate the pace!

1. Getting Started & Connecting

To connect to Phoenix, you do not use the modern Battle.net launcher. Instead, you'll need a specific legacy version of the game client.

  1. Acquire the Game Client: We highly recommend downloading the 3.3.5a HD Client from the official HD Client Discord. This version includes updated character models and textures for a modern feel.
  2. Update your Realmlist: Once downloaded, navigate to the Data/enUS (or enGB) folder in your game directory. Open the realmlist.wtf file with a text editor (like Notepad) and replace its entire contents with: set realmlist phoenix.mynest.love
  3. Account Creation: Because authentication is tied to The Nest's infrastructure, drop a request in the Matrix "Ask an Admin" room to get your game account provisioned and linked!

2. The Custom Experience (Server Modules)

Phoenix runs several custom modules under the hood that completely change how you experience Azeroth. Here is how they will impact your gameplay:

  • Playerbots (A Living World): The server is actively populated with intelligent AI players. Thanks to built-in level brackets, you will see these bots naturally leveling up out in the world, running dungeons, and chatting in major cities across all level ranges—making the world feel alive even if you are the only human online.
  • Multi-Bot Bridge: You aren't just playing alongside bots—you can recruit them! This module allows you to invite AI players to your group and command them to tank, heal, or DPS, giving you the power to run entire dungeons or raids completely solo.
  • Individual Progression: You get to experience the game's history at your own pace. Instead of starting directly in the final patch of Wrath of the Lich King, your character progresses through Vanilla, The Burning Crusade, and finally WotLK content individually as you hit specific milestones.
  • Accountwide Features: Thanks to custom accountwide LUA plugins, your time and effort are respected. Mounts, pets, and achievements are shared across all characters on your account, making it incredibly rewarding and easy to start fresh with an "alt" character.

To get the absolute most out of Phoenix, you will want to install a few 3.3.5a-compatible addons. You can install these by simply dropping the extracted addon folders into your Interface/AddOns directory.

The Multibot Addon (Highly Recommended!)

If you plan on using the Multi-Bot Bridge to run dungeons with AI companions, the Multibot client addon is absolutely essential. It provides a visual interface to easily issue commands, set roles, and manage your bot party without having to type out complex chat commands! You can find it here!

  • ElvUI: A complete, modern overhaul for the classic World of Warcraft user interface. It makes everything from action bars to unit frames look clean and customizable.
  • Questie & TourGuide: Essential tools for navigating the massive world. Questie adds quest markers to your map, while TourGuide provides step-by-step, optimized leveling routes.
  • Bagnon: Combines all your separate character bags into one massive, easy-to-search inventory window.

4. Playerbots

In addition to the Multibot addon, we recommend referencing the Playerbot Commands for more details on how to interact with your playerbots.

As mentioned in that guide, there is a very important distinction between the two bot types on Phoenix:

  • Altbots: Let the server control your alts! Altbots are actual characters on your account, but you sign them in using commands and party up. They'll accept and turn in quests, loot, and do dungeons alongside you. Unlike Rndbots, they'll only gear themselves with loot they collect. It's like having some very chill guildies along for the journey.
  • Rndbots: The server will populate the zones with random bots that do their own thing outside of your party. They're on their own journeys, independent from you. They'll quest, grind, do dungeons, and generally populate the world. If you want you can recruit them to your party, but in general they're just there to make the world feel more alive. Rndbots are distributed across the game world, but will trend towards areas with real players. Rndbots are recycled and re-geared so that the level brackets remain populated.

Playerbot FAQ

Do I have to use the multibot bar? Or can I use macros too?

You can absolutely use macros! In fact we highly encourage it. Frequently used commands like /p @tank do attack my target and similar you should create a macro for so you can bind it to a bar and set a hotkey.

How in the world do I sign in all of my bots at once?

We recommend creating a macro. For each bot you want to sign in, issue a .playerbots add <character name>. This will sign in the character and add them to your party.

For larger raid parties, use the Multibot Radius integration to form raid comps.

My bots keep getting left behind or stuck. Do I have to keep waiting for them?

Nope! Issue a /p summon to instantly teleport your bots to you. There's also an action for it on the Multibot bar.

Summon Exploits

Using the summon command can allow you to instantly teleport your bots back from the graveyard. Your journey is your own and it's up to you to decide if you use this knowledge.

How do I get my bots to repair their gear and acquire new skills?

This is called "maintenance". Just issue a /p maintenance on ocassion and your bots will learn all available spells and skills, supplement consumables, enchant gear, and repair. There's also an action for it on the multibot bar.

You can also instruct your bots to talk to an NPC trainer to learn professions and recipes.

My bots inventories keep getting full. How do I get them to sell to merchants?

Click on a merchant you'd like your bots to sell to and issue a /p s vendor. The bots will sell everything they don't consider valuable, keeping a buffer of consumables and holding on to trade goods. You may have to trade your bots on ocassion to collect their accumulated trade goods. This is a bit of a tedious process. Open a trade with your bot and they'll whisper you their inventory. Whisper them back with an item link (shift-click an item they listed) and they'll add it to the trade. Supposedly you can add multiple items to a whisper, but this doesn't always work.

Oh my god that's a lot of spam. Why do they do that everytime I click on one? Can I turn it off?

No, unfortunately. We highly reccomend creating a new chat window exclusively for whispers and only paying attention when you need to directly interact with the bots.

Turn off whisper alerts

In ElvUI, go to the chat settings, alerts, and scroll down to whisper. Change the audio clip to "None" to shut up those annoying badoops.
